Verona (continued)

This morning we saw the arena from the inside. This is the third largest amphitheatre in Italy and is still used for performances, principally the Verona Opera Festival in the summer months. While we were too early in the season for an opera, we did try out various seats and realized that there were no bad seats in this accoustically perfect venue.

After the arena, we walked along the Adige River to San Zeno Basillica, a most impressive and beautiful church dating to the 6th century. The pictures will give you an idea of what this building looks like from the outside, from the interior and from the cloisters. I particularly liked the statue of San Zemo, the very popular 8th bishop of Verona , who looks so happy. Maybe, because he just caught a fish.
