Venice - Tuesday

We started today with a couple of photos taken at our hotel, really a bed and breakfast called Ca' Riccio.  It's a short walk off the Fondamente Nove where the vaporetta dropped us off on the north side of Venice and a ten minute walk away from the great hordes of tourists of the San Marco area, that is if you don't get lost en route. We have a small room with a tiny balcony. David's room is just across a little courtyard so he was able to take the balcony shot of us from his window. After breakfast, we walked to St. Mark's Basillica and visited the museum and church. We saw the original life-size 4 bronze horses as opposed to the copies outside. They date to the 4th century and were originally on the hippodrome in Constantinople. There were also some amazing mosaics on display. I like the one of David and Salomon (shown).  We could go outside on the loggio and have a great view of St. Mark's Square. The interior of the basilica is impressive - golden  mosaics everywhere and beautifully patterned inlaid marble floors. We had a late lunch to revive ourselves after being overwhelmed by the richness of St. Mark's. The perfectly cooked seafood rissotto and  Pino Grigio were just what we needed!!
