Verona (continued part 2)

We continued to explore Verona this afternoon and learned more about the Scaligere family of the 1300's.  This group of nobles not only built the castle and impressive bridge shown in yesterday's blog, but also had a lovely palace in another area of town. They built their own church and had some amazing raised tombs shown in the picture below. Their crenelated style is quite distinctive here in Verona. 

Later we passed by Romeo's house ( 4th picture below) not to be completely outdone by Juliet's house shown yesterday. 

Tonight we ate at a restsurant called Griglia which specializes in grilled meat which is prepared over an open fire in the restaurant - only about 3 metres from our table. . We had perfectly grilled tenderloin steak and sampled the most amazing local red wine called Amarone. Another wonderful day in this delightful city!
