Sunday - Venice to Vicenza

Wally and I left Venice around noon today after a wonderful week exploring it with David. David left for Lucca and we took a train to Vicenza, about 40 minutes from Venice. Vicenza is a small city which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its abundance of Palladian architecture designed by 16th century architect, Andrea Palladio. (more on Andrea in a later post) We walked from the train station to our small hotel which is a totally renovated 18th century palace, now very modern and elegant behind its classical exterior. It is situated in the historical core of the city where most of the streets are for pedestrians and local traffic only. We had a spritz in the main plazza where vendors were selling bedding plants of all descriptions. After a rest we walked through part of the "centro story I" until we found the trattoria recommended by our hotel. There we ate a delicious meal of food typical of the region including linguine with fresh white asparagus for Wally and short curly pasta with artichokes and ricotta for me. Below are a few pictures from our day, starting with the train ride and then around Vicenza.
