Our hotel is near the tip of the rocky Punta Del Este, but a very short walk inland on either side of the point are sandy beaches. The main beach on the east side of the point is Playa Brava with water from the South Atlantic and on the west side of the point, the water is considered to be from the mouth of the Plata River. Generally the beach is windier and the water rougher on the east side and is preferred by surfers, although depending on conditions, either side can be pleasant or turbulent. Yesterday we explored both sides of the point and the streets in between. We were somewhat overdressed but the sun here is very intense and we wanted to avoid sunburns. Here are a few pictures from our outing.
El Mira Beach with Playa Brava beyond
The famous sculpture of "The Hand" on Playa Brava. It represents a drowning person and is a warning to swimmers.
The other side of "The Hand"
Virtually empty beaches. This is definitely pre-season on Playa Brava.
An oystercatcher on Playa Brava
Playa Mansa - the less windy beach on the west side of the point
What is a totem pole doing here?
A statue in Carrera marble by a famous Uruguayan sculptor, Pablo Atchugarry
Didn't expect to find Spider-Man here.

Look to the right of the La Vista sign
Yup. That's a transformer up there. (My zoom lens is very useful.)
Lots of palm trees
Marina near the point (on the leeward side)
