Montevideo on Foot

Yesterday we explored Montevideo on foot.  It is a sprawling city so we did not reach all areas, but we did check out the core of the city with its principal plazas, the "old town" as well as the "old port".  The day was beautiful with a sunny sky and the temperature a pleasant 21 degrees.  The air here is much cleaner than Buenos Aires and the city generally seems more prosperous.  The cars are newer, the streets are cleaner, and there are swimable beaches right in the city.  We walked back to our hotel along the rambla, a walkway that runs along beside the river for about 30 kilometres.  We estimated that our day's walk covered at least 15 kilometres although probably only 6 were along the rambla.
