We left Montevideo for Punta Del Este by bus yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. Punta Del Este is a beach resort about two and a half hours away by bus. We thought that this would be a relaxing place to spend a few days before returning to Buenos Aires for our travel home. We were happy to see the modern and upscale bus terminal in Montevideo. (I am afraid that the Retiro Bus Terminal in Buenos Aires was a little sketchy, to say the least.) Our bus ride was very comfortable and we had a good look at the countryside as we travelled along the coast. Our first view of Punta Del Este was from a hilltop as we approached the town where we could clearly see the point of land extending into the ocean. We were a little taken aback by the sight of so many high rise buildings, but were relieved that our little hotel was out on the point itself where the buildings are low and the streets quiet. However, it turns out that none of the streets are all that busy at this time of year as things really don't get moving until late December. Once we settled into our hotel, we had time for a walk around the point before supper.
