Montevideo by Bus

Yesterday we wanted to give our legs a bit of a rest so we opted for a tour of the city on the Bus Turístico, a hop on/ hop off ride to various parts of the city.  We had already visited some of the main areas on foot, but with Montevideo being very spread out, this gave us a chance to review what we had already seen and to visit neighbourhoods which were new to us.  The photos below are mostly of locations which were not posted previously. It was another perfect day and we rode on the upper level of an open double decker bus with an awning to keep the sun from burning us.  Later in the afternoon we walked out to the lighthouse on the point of land just down from our hotel.  We climbed to the top of the light and had city views both east and west.  Our final dinner in Montevideo was at a little restaurant rated highly by TripAdvisor.  It opened at 7pm when no one in this part of South America has supper.  We walked over at 7:15pm and enjoyed the restaurant all to ourselves until around 9 pm when a couple of other people arrived.  The waiter had a great personality and gave us his undivided attention as he had nothing else to do for most of our time there.  We practised our Spanish and he proved most helpful.  Best of all, the parilla (barbecued steak) was the best we've eaten on this trip.  To accompany the steaks, we drank an excellent Malbec wine (from Mendoza of course).
