Mother's Day in Argentina

Mother's Day in Argentina is celebrated in October and appears to be an important annual event.  This past Sunday we were told to forget about eating out and we were even turned away form a cafe where all tables had been reserved.  It was, however,  a beautiful day and a great time for a walk in the park.  We walked past the National Library where several statues caught our eye, including one of Juan Perón. The first time we walked by the giant metal flower (Floralis Generica) which I described in an earlier post, the petals were closed.  We were told that it did not function any more, but they must have repaired it, because on Mother's Day it was open to the sun.  Walking through the park, we heard a loud noise from the branches overhead.  We looked up to see a large nest and a parrot telling us to get lost. I was lucky to get a couple of pictures before it flew off.
