Dinner Out

We were very happy to welcome David to Buenos Aires this past Wednesday.  He is staying with us until the end of October.  He has had his first tango lesson and an advanced Spanish class so is already at home here.  We often prepare meals in our apartment, but last night we decided to dine out at a restaurant called Melo. It had beenrecommended to us by Tara and John Matt when they were in Buenos Aires last December.  The restaurant was in our neighbourhood, so we walked to Melo early in the hopes that we could get in without a reservation.  We got a table for three with no problem.  A word of explanation -  When I say early, I mean that we went shortly after 8 pm and there was no one in the restaurant when we arrived.  Porteños eat their dinner late.  They have four meals a day: breakfast which consists of small croissant-type rolls called medialunas; lunch as we know it although it can often be the main meal of the day; merienda which is a late afternoon snack; and dinner which rarely starts before 8:30 or 9 pm and often begins after a play or concert at 10:30 pm or so.  By the time we finished our meal around 9:30 pm there was a lineup at the door as every table had been taken, even though most people arrived with reservations.  Melo is a popular spot. They grill steaks (big beef eaters here) just the way you order them plus a variety of other dishes, and the prices are very reasonable.  We enjoyed our meal and will undoubtedly return before our visit to Buenos Aires is over.  Here are a few pictures for the record.

Sated and ready to walk home!  Note the down sweaters.  Tonight was chilly, a breezy 12 degrees!
