Our Apartment in Buenos Aires

We have settled into our apartment in Buenos Aires.  It is located in Recoleta, a lovely area of the city.  The apartment itself is large by Argentine standards with two bedrooms (one for David when he comes), a large living/dining room, kitchen, and two bathrooms.  (We push back the furniture in the living room when we have our tango lessons.) There is a balcony off one of the bedrooms which overlooks Junin Street.  There are grocery stores and fruit and vegetable shops nearby as well as cafes, restaurants and many stores.  We are two blocks away from Santa Fe Avenue which is a very busy street running east and west.  Our street is narrow and one way only which makes for a less frenzied environment.  We are enjoying the challenge of grocery shopping and cooking many of our meals.  As most of the people we come into contact with while shopping do not speak English, we are using Spanish every day.  The photos below are taken in our apartment.

Start of Argentina Trip - Sunday, September 27

We arrived in Buenos Aires on Friday afternoon and are starting to settle into this new and exciting city. This is my first post, and, now that we have fully recovered from the long trip here, they should now occur somewhat regularly.  Nineteen plus hours en route was a little tiring, but I am happy to report that all our flights were on time and smooth, and our arrival at Ezeiza Airport and entry into Argentina was quick and efficient.  We approached Buenos Aires from Santiago, Chile where we landed briefly before flying over the Andes, across the Argentine pampas and here to this city.  Our airport taxi was waiting for us once we collected our luggage, as was our building manager when we arrived at the apartment we are renting in Recoleta. Our first evening we unpacked, bought a few breakfast groceries, and  ate supper at a little cafe across the street before heading to bed.

Yesterday (Saturday), our first order of business was to head to the Teatro Colon to pick up the opera tickets to Don Carlo which I had ordered months ago.  The opera is in Tuesday night but I was keen to have the tickets ahead of time.  While at the theatre we noticed that a tour of the theatre in English was to start an hour later, so we had lunch at the cafe in the theatre and joined the tour. The tour guide was excellent and the theatre was amazing.  Our first photos will show you what I mean. I guess Pavorotti sang here once and said he would never sing in this theatre again as the acoustics were too perfect and the slightest imperfection would be detected.   Our guide was able to show us where we will sit on Tuesday night.  As we were leaving she said she could get us good seats to a free concert today if anyone wanted them. Wally and I accepted her offer.  The rest of yesterday we explored our immediate neighbourhood.
